Connect an AI client and find the API reference
How to use the MCP and API pages inside Ptally to connect Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor, and to find every API endpoint with examples.
The bottom bar of the Ptally platform has two reference pages: MCP and API. Both are generated from the running platform, so they always match what it supports.
The MCP page
The MCP page shows the MCP endpoint and every tool available to AI clients. Each tool lists what it does, whether it needs you to sign in, and an example request.

To connect a client:
- Copy the endpoint with Copy URL.
- Add it to your AI client as a remote MCP server. In Claude, go to Settings, then Connectors, then Add custom connector.
- When the client opens the Ptally sign-in page, paste your
client_id_keyandclient_secret_keyfrom settings. The client receives a token, not your keys.
The page also shows a help endpoint that needs no sign-in. You can share it with anyone, such as someone drafting a model, because it only serves the reference tools and never your projects or quotes.
For step-by-step instructions for each client, see MCP.
The API page
The API page lists every endpoint with its method, path, description, and example request and response. Each example has a copy button.

Every request authenticates with two headers, client_id_key and client_secret_key. The full reference, with a worked pet insurance quote, is on our API page.
What AI clients can and cannot do
AI clients can read the modelling rules, start from example models, validate models, price dry-run quotes, run a version's tests and edit draft versions. They cannot approve or publish. Those steps stay with you, as described in Approve and publish a version.
